Pros

1. Some truly top notch individuals work here who are passionate about what they do and helping others. 2. The company could do great things and be an excellent place to work IF it took advantage of the talent it has on board.

Cons

1. Overvaluing Sales – too much focus and recognition on the top sales leaders. Lavish all expenses paid trips (non-COVID times) for those who bring in the most sales revenue. Who do you think RETAINS the clients after they are in the door?! 2. Ineffective Business Operations & operational inefficiency – very disorganized environment lacking the technology platforms that fit the needs of the organization. ARCH Is a joke. It is clunky and challenging to find information within it. This SharePoint platform does not have all the capabilities required, so in lieu of scrapping the portal and finding a more robust platform, it’s piecemealed together (e.g. using marketing cloud) adding confusion to an already non-user friendly ARCH portal. Cut the losses and find or build a tool that is better suited for the purpose. 3. Only focusing on acquiring new firms when current firms are suffering. Growth at the expense of the core foundation breaking down is detrimental to the culture. 4. AleraEdge needs to be disbanded or sold. It lacks excellence in all areas and is an embarrassment to offer clients, yet it is pushed and the solution we are required to use. Alera is not a TPA nor should they compete with a TPA. The latter spends hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars on technology and ensuring top notch outcomes. AleraEdge is light years behind in what other vendors offer for the same price. 5. The Leadership Team is divorced from the daily realities going on underneath them. Individuals have been PUT on the leadership team who did not EARN nor deserve the position. Was the position posted internally for others to apply?? How can someone with no management training/education and less than 2 years of work experience managing employees be qualified to lead a department successfully?! The leadership team is disconnected from what employees really feel about their managers and the company.

Pros

Some of the most talented, knowledgeable employees in the industry.

Cons

Leadership team is too focused on EBITDA. The goals they put forward are arbitrary. Seeking a high valuation to look good for the venture capitalists they’re selling to next. A growth at all cost mentality, hyper focused on acquisitions and mergers with a finite purpose to make money to the benefit of the stockholders & stakeholders. As Henry Ford said, “A business that makes nothing but money is a poor kind of business.” Money should be a result, not a purpose. The will of employees should be a priority over the resources (e.g. EBITDA) they produce. Horrible benefits package for employees. Ironic for a company in the benefits business. Unequal advancement opportunities. Leadership team contains employees with undeserved/unearned titles, some are managers with no management training nor experience. Titles hold more weight than actual work experience or education. Unequal compensation. Stock/equity only offered for “elite” few. No clear rules on who was eligible i.e., managing partners discretion, It wasn’t role based nor tenure, leading to unfair distribution. e.g. brother of owner received stock who was in a role where no one else in that same role was offered nor eligible.

Pros

It's not a bad company to work for, I've worked for far worse. But they did get cheap with their benefits for 2021 and the workload is overwhelmingly too much.

Cons

Workload: You will never run out of work. You'll be buried from day one. You're expected to get the work done without going into OT (if you are hourly). It's a fight with leadership to open a position to hire qualified people. Employee benefits: Their medical plan is a nightmare, they passed a 42.85% increase in premium to certain plans to the employee, for employee only coverage between 2020 and 2021. Then they took away the company paid accident benefit and made it 100% employee paid. Prescriptions that were $15 a month last year? Jumped to $40+ a month in 2021. Their current medical plan provider is difficult to reach via the phone and unwilling to provide any assistance/guidance on their denials for coverage. Word to the wise, if you're going in for surgery, better ask EVERY Single person in the Operating Room if they participate with your medical carrier and if they are necessary to assist in the surgery. Otherwise.... You'll get bills in the thousands of dollars and the carrier conveniently can't find your appeals, if you happen to get someone to answer their phone. Company match on 401k? It USED to be 6% company match up when an employee put in 6%. Then the pandemic hit, they took the match away. Then they reinstated the match at 3.5% if you put in 6% of your income.
