Initial communication in an interview should see a tone of authority as well as ease. To get a true sense of a candidate, you need to help pull it from them like any good manager can by staying with a leading question. "If you were to be offered this position and accepted, who would you tell first?" Now they are in a good head space to get into the job's core sections. Be sure to start with one or two questions the candidate either should be or is familiar with, but are telling. "What is your opinion on our screening process?" What would you say was the reason you left your last job and/or choose to apply here? Describe a situation where you as the manager or as someone who overheard poor management skills were displayed.
