Riverside Research Awarded $18.6M Technical Sensors Radar Support Contract
We all know our teams build excellent robot technologies, but wait until you hear about one of our employee’s extracurricular activities! 🤖 Timothy Waltz, Vice President, Sensors and Systems at Riverside Research, coaches the Fresta Valley student #robotics team, based in Northern VA. He reports that the team has been successful and competitive in recent competitions. At a recent competition in Blacksburg, the team won the Innovation in Control Award, a technical award which recognizes an innovative control system or application of control components. The team received this special recognition for their articulated robot arm design, which uses specialized software to draw and record paths for the arm in order to maintain consistent control over its function. In last weekend’s competition in Bethesda, MD at Walt Whitman High School, the team received the Excellence in #Engineering Award! #GoTeamGo #RoboticsWinners #STEMEducation
Earlier this week, Riverside Research employees learned about #SizeAcceptance 💛 during a Healthy Inside and Out Webinar from Cigna Healthcare as part of our ongoing #wellbeing initiative. Employees learned about moving away from the diet mentality, prioritizing #health over weight loss, and finding movement and #exercise that we love! 🏃 This Healthy Eating Seminar reinforced ideas of nourishment, #mindfulness, and balanced eating habits we can practice at work and at home.

Please meet Kathy Ann Funk, Riverside Research Program Manager and a radar subject matter expert. Kathy Ann and 61 other women made history as West Point's first women graduates. These women survived tough physical and academic rigors while facing open hostility from male cadets who opposed the sudden admission of women. Kathy Ann said, "I saw attitudes soften, one at a time, as these cadets observed our unending determination and grit." After serving in the Army, Kathy Ann spent a few years as a stay-at-home mom. The family moved often for her husband’s career, allowing Kathy Ann to work a variety of jobs from AP teacher to #manufacturing team leader. When the family moved abroad, Kathy Ann flourished as a #Radar Systems #Engineer. She’s now worked on radars for over 20 years. She joined Riverside Research in 2015 and enjoys solving radar issues and encouraging her team to strive for excellence, collaboration, and professional expertise. What gives Kathy Ann hope is her experience that the attitudes and persistent efforts of one person can be a catalyst for incredible change. #W
Yesterday, our Secure & Resilient Systems Team hosted a fascinating employee #LunchAndLearn with Dr. Philip Lundrigan, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Brigham Young University. Dr. Lundrigan spoke about exploring wireless protocol adaptability through wireless subprotocols. He offered real life examples of wireless protocol disruptions and how to solve these practical, everyday issues. Dr. Lundrigan’s career includes the study of wireless home monitoring, video streaming, and wireless associations, which he studied as a research assistant at the University of Utah. His work centers around improving monitoring and wireless network speeds, new wireless protocols, and wireless devices as part of the #InternetOfThings. We are so thankful to Dr. Lundrigan for sharing his time and expertise with us. #ElectricalEngineering #ComputerEngineering #EmployeeGrowth #EmployeeExprience #LifeAtRiversideResearch #LearningEveryday #IoT
