We are pleased to announce that in a prestigious league alongside industry giants like Cisco, Deloitte, HP, and many others, Elsevier has secured a coveted spot as one of the top 10 Best Places To Work for Working Daughters 2023. The award recognizes companies that go above and beyond to create a workplace culture supporting family caregivers. "The companies on this list understand that supporting working caregivers is a business imperative,” said Liz O’Donnell, Working Daughter founder. “While many companies have established initiatives to assist employees who are parents, it is equally critical to acknowledge and support those who are caring for ageing and/or ill family members.” More than 1 in 6 working Americans assist with the care of an elderly or disabled family member, relative, or friend. Seventy per cent of those caregivers suffer work-related difficulties due to their dual roles. The cost to businesses from caregivers leaving the workforce is an estimated $3.3 billion. About Working Daughter: Working Daughter's mission is twofold: to make sure no one goes through caregiving alone and to make care and career compatible. Working Daughter operates a nationally recognized support group for family caregivers, and its WD at Work program helps businesses retain caregiving employees. In my 11 years at Elsevier, I have experienced directly how we learn to value women’s experiences and leadership and how Elsevier has embraced gender equity. When I returned to work after maternity leave in 2019, I found that a women’s network had started in my office. The first event was a celebration featuring our new CEO — the first woman CEO in the company’s 140-year history. Listening to her, my colleagues and other panelists speak about the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership, authenticity, and the power that comes from diversity and inclusion, I knew I was in a place where I could grow while also being true to my core beliefs. Kumsal Bayazit, CEO of Elsevier has prioritized gender equity, dedicating resources and thought to ensure Elsevier leads the way in inclusivity in publishing, academia, and technology.

"It is amazing to see how our colleagues invest significant time to help the refugees find their way in the Dutch labor market. The passion they have to help has paid off significantly and has made a huge difference for the mentees — and it makes me proud to be their colleague. The stories we hear of every single mentee and their journey to where they are today are humbling and give very different perspectives on life. Makes you realize how lucky we are and that when you are in a position to help others, you should." -Sjoerd Cooijmans, HR Director Continental Europe & Research Markets, Amsterdam
