Employee Resource Group Leader Spotlight - Chris Cephus Chris Cephus, Central Engineering Project Manager, is one of the original founders of our African and Black Leadership for Excellence (ABLE) Employee Resource Group (ERG). Over the course of 11 years with Zimmer Biomet, Chris has demonstrated his capability as a leader in Continuous Improvement, Network Optimization, Remediation and Engineering. Now, he's here to share some of the insights he's gained as ABLE's Chair. Why are you involved with ABLE? I enjoy the process of building relationships and supporting the sustainability of this ERG. Being in ABLE allows me to connect with impactful people in the organization on a regular basis—I've never experienced anything like being in an ERG at any other place of employment before. What is something you wish other team members knew about ABLE or the work ABLE does? When ABLE started in 2017, we created a signature end-of-the-year guest speaker event that was dynamic and provided the organization with beneficial content. Fast forward to 2023, and now we have dynamic speakers and content at every monthly ABLE meeting. I'm very proud to have been part of that growth. What have you learned in your leadership role? I've grown immeasurably as both a leader and person by being responsible for ABLE's growth and success. This could not have been possible without my fellow ABLE leadership team who are all dynamic individuals and make me better every day.
New President & CEO Ivan Tornos, global leaders, Warsaw team members, local leaders and local community members all gathered in the newly renovated Zimmer Biomet Center Lake Pavilion on September 27 for the official ribbon cutting ceremony. The renovation was a result of a $2.5 million dollar grant from the Zimmer Biomet Foundation with a goal to advance the commitment to the local Warsaw community and the city of Warsaw, where Zimmer Biomet has been headquartered since 1927. Ivan talked about how Warsaw resembles the town where he spent many years of his young life. “I came to this country with $300 in my pocket and a small suitcase and big ambitions,” Tornos said. “The sense of community that we had, the family-centric approach that we took, the hard-working values that were there inspired me beyond any comprehension and shaped me as a leader and as a human being.” Ivan referenced that he would never be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company without his upbringing and that is one key reason he is committed to Warsaw. “Great companies are anchored in great towns, based on great values, based on great families and that’s what we’ve got here,” he said. “So beyond the values…beyond the family-centric approach…beyond the faith-centric approach, which is very dear to me…I love the grit, the resilience, and the innovation story we have here in Warsaw, Indiana and Zimmer Biomet.” Ivan echo’d ZB’s commitment time and time again, intentionally saying, “Warsaw, Indiana will con
Zimmer Biomet celebrates Hispanic Heritage month with a line-up team members will not want to miss. We use this time to honor the rich history, culture, heritage, achievements, and contributions of Latinos and people with ancestors from Spain and Latin America by asking team members to join in on the celebration with our JUNTOS ERG. We kicked off the month with a successful event featuring three-time Daytime Emmy winner, speaker, author and entrepreneur Gaby Natale in a discussion entitled "The Virtuous Circle." Those in attendance listened as Gaby talked about what sets top achievers apart and explored alternative paths to success that don't rely on talent or connections. We have one more reason to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at ZB this year: the recent appointment of Ivan Tornos to the position of President and CEO is significant regarding our focus on DEI. "Zimmer Biomet takes immense pride in having a leader of Hispanic heritage in this key role for our organization. This historic moment not only reflects our commitment to diversity, but also inspires us to strive for excellence in the years ahead," explained Willard McCloud, Vice President, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. "We are dedicated to delivering outstanding results not only in 2023 but well into the future under Ivan's leadership."
