Pros

Employees are great! Nice individuals, hard-working, enthusiastic. Flexible, in terms of hours needed at the office, and ability to work from home. Casual dress environment.

Cons

Management, both upper and middle, is horrendous! HR Dept is horrendous! Things are not remedied, that are not part of a professional company. If the things that I saw and heard happened at another company, changes would have happened, immediately. Both HR and upper management let it go. People are yelled at by their managers causing an awkward dynamic. I was never yelled at, but I saw and heard others being yelled at. There are a few select upper management individuals that are treated like kings! They can do whatever they want without repercussion. The very unfortunate part is that HR and Executive level management know about all of this, yet do nothing to change it. There is a sense that if you're not part of a certain ethnic group (which is predominant at APEX), you will not get ahead. Unfortunately, the culture within some departments at APEX are run as if they are in "that" part of the world. As well, if you're a female, you will not have opportunities for advancement, within those departments. It seems that individuals that are hired for these departments are of the same ethnic group. Of course, there are others within these departments that are not of the ethnic group - however, they were hired from within the company, not from outside. By keeping individuals of the specific ethnic group, they are more likely to follow the way of their culture. It's a very odd situation - I've never seen such a predominance of a specific group, as well as their own culture being part of the norm, within a company. I have a rating of 1 star to offset the several 4 or 5 star ratings that will follow. As another reviewer mentioned, HR has individuals entering fake 4 and 5 star ratings/reviews. I know this as a fact, as an HR individual mentioned it to me and another former employee. If you do decide to work here, you'll end leaving. The employees make it bearable. However, the inadequacies and unprofessionalism of management and HR will catch up with you.

Progressively Worse!

Pros

This company used to be a great place when I joined. If you worked hard and were dedicated, opportunities to grow were given to you. Adequate training was provided if you show real interest. You atleast felt that you were being heard. Some of the people in non management levels in different departments are knowledgeable and are a delight to work with.

Cons

Things have gotten progressively worse in the last year and a half. Emphasis is no longer on organization's growth. Emphasis is on pleasing a few individuals who are high up the ladder because they bring in revenue. Those people have learnt that the company would tolerate anything they do. Being Rude, Unprofessional and nasty to colleagues is treated as a way of life and is encouraged as long as you bring in revenue. There is no respect for personal space and time. Working on the weekend is mandatory (every week!). Vacations are hardly vacations when most of the time goes on official phone calls and troubleshooting sessions. The upper management thinks that the office network is their home internet and clog it by uploading videos in 4K from their recent trip to Hawaii. Recruitment standards have gotten terrible where good employees leave at the first available opportunity and are replaced by weak people who suck up to the management or remain quiet when being yelled at. There is no respect for your time and they treat you like Slaves. The HR is well aware of the problems but is resigned to the fact that their responsibility is limited to sending emails about nonexistent HR policies and organizing Walking, Running and Eating healthy competitions. They have interns and their team write 10 positive reviews when a negative review is posted. Read all reviews to see the real face of this organization instead of some "Great place" and "Wonderful place" reviews with excerpts from templates. The lack of any kind of professional and managerial experience shows in the turnover of employees. New employees get frustrated immediately and old employees are treated like dirt so that they will leave. If you are from the previous organization where most of these people worked for, you will be given importance and treated differently (with respect) so as to form a clique. Bad Professionals are asked to lead an entire infrastructure team because they knew the CIO and the SVP from a previous job and suck up at any given opportunity. Napoleon Complex is acceptable and so is treating others badly . HR, CEO, CIO and everyone else is well aware of this fact but is hesitant to even speak to such people. They run a Cryptocurrency mining software on PC being the SVP of the company on a PC that cost the company nearly 4000 USD. The infrastructure team was asked to remain quiet when it found this out to please those certain few. The products that have amazing potential are over engineered, poorly coded and have very bad coding standards. External audits are often presented cooked up, manipulated information to meet with standards. Customers are either jumping ship or outright frustrated with the customer support. Promotions are handed over to people who are favored because of their personal relationship. Good work is criticized and often ignored. Mediocrity is applauded if you are a favored few in the clique.

Pros

The best thing about Apex was my team. The team was like my family and we worked for each other.

Cons

Management is poor, Salary is low, expectations are unrealistic. This is just a bad place to work. Especially in the IT/Dev department. Managers think that the way to lead is with an iron fist. They think that talking to people as if they are children is acceptable. Even after reporting it, HR will do nothing about it. The stress level is extremely high, but it is not due to the work. It is due to management. The company says they have 4 basic tenants: Performance, Respect, Candor and Fun. I had a manager that blatantly told me not to expect respect, and proceeded to live up to that. Upper management is aware of this issue but does not seem to care. In less than a year they have managed to run away no less than half of the engineering team replacing them with off-shore resources. They only want to hire people who will blindly follow instruction. Management needs to listen to people when they report issues instead of blindly looking at nothing but the bottom line. As for career development, it depends on who you are, and who you know, not what you are capable of. If you are early in your career, you’ll find it great because you will be pushed to learn many different things and gain an understanding of many different aspects of infrastructure and product development. However, for a seasoned engineer, your creativity will be stifled by leaders who think they know everything and aren’t open to ideas, unless they came up with them. You will be expected to deliver solutions that are poorly planned and severely underfunded, in an unrealistic timeframe. Read all of the reviews here. Take note of the trend in the negative reviews. Note the positive reviews, but understand that employees were asked to go to glassdoor and write positive reviews to offset some of the negative. Bottom line: if at all possible, steer clear. If you are being pitched here by a recruiter, try to have an ‘off the record’ conversation with them to see what they tell you.
